Job Summary:
The Elementary After School Staff is responsible for supervising and assisting children in the after-school care program. This position includes providing a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for students, ensuring they engage in academic, recreational, and social activities after the regular school day ends.
Supervision: Ensure the safety and well-being of children during after-school hours, maintaining a positive and welcoming atmosphere.
Activity Planning & Participation: Lead and assist in structured activities, including arts and crafts, games, homework assistance, and outdoor activities.
Homework Assistance: Provide support for students with homework and academic tasks in a quiet, structured space.
Behavior Management: Foster a positive environment by enforcing rules, managing behavior, and resolving conflicts in a constructive manner.
Communication: Maintain clear communication with parents and school staff about any relevant student concerns or updates.
Snack/Meal Assistance: Help children with snack time or meals, ensuring proper hygiene and health safety standards.
Clean-Up: Assist in keeping the program area clean and organized at all times.
Emergency Response: Act in accordance with school safety procedures in case of emergencies, including first aid or contacting emergency services when necessary.
High school diploma or equivalent (some college coursework in education or child development preferred).
Experience working with groups of children, especially in an elementary school or after-school setting, is preferred.
Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate activities.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to maintain a calm demeanor and positive attitude.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Must pass background check and other applicable screenings.
Ability to sit, stand, and engage in light physical activity (e.g., assisting children with games, playing sports, or walking) for extended periods.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds (e.g., bags, supplies).
Ability to react quickly to emergencies or changes in the environment.
