Job Overview:
The Surgical Scheduler is responsible for the scheduling of all surgical procedures and general clerical work within The Surgery Center. The Surgical Scheduler works in collaboration with the Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse, and Anesthesia department to ensure procedures are scheduled appropriately, and equipment and staffing are available. The Surgical Scheduler is responsible for coordinating and organizing required documentation in advance of the scheduled procedure and assembling patient charts. He/she will perform other related duties as needed to maintain department cost containment, efficiency, as well as quality performance. Other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Actively works to promote and maintain an organizational culture that enhances our standing as the best place to work and receive care.
- Active engagement in staff meetings, department meetings, in-services, educational requirements, etc.
- Demonstrates knowledge of The Surgery Center’s current policies and procedures.
- Enters scheduling data in an accurate and timely manner.
- Schedules surgical procedures based on time and room availability, anesthesia coverage, caregiver coverage, and equipment conflicts in collaboration with the Charge Nurse. Manages utilization of resources in collaboration with Charge Nurse.
- Reviews the case schedules and anticipates the need for special equipment and/or supplies and communicates such needs to the appropriate responsible party.
- Reviews and alters schedule to provide logical flow and prevent delays in collaboration with Charge Nurse/Nurse Manager and Anesthesia. Alters schedule as needed and communicates changes in a timely fashion to appropriate parties.
- Coordinates block schedule changes with Charge Nurse/Nurse Manager. Obtains approval prior to permanent block schedule changes.
- Covers Registration Desk as needed; answers telephone, greets patients and visitors.
- Contributes to meeting the fluctuating staffing needs of the department as evidenced by flexibility in own assignment and work schedule.
- Assists with stripping, cleaning, and setting up the OR suite for cases with efficiency and speed, as needed.
- Demonstrates initiative and collaborates professionally with caregivers throughout all departments.
- Prepares and distributes preoperative and surgery schedules.
- Schedules procedures according to medical staff availability.
- Promotes teamwork by assisting with the precepting of new caregivers.
- Identifies areas of conflict, intervenes effectively, or seeks assistance in conflict resolution.
Experience Qualifications:
- Minimum of one (1) year work experience as an OR/ASC/ surgical scheduler is required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.

Physical abilities:

- Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Push/pull +/- 150-200 lbs. (Patients on bed, stretcher) Lateral transfer 150-200 lbs. (ie.Patient)
- Lift over 50 lbs. Carry 80 lbs. a distance of 30 feet. Push/pull > 200 lbs. (ie. Patients on bed, stretcher)
