Pay: $20.00/hour
Location: Phoenix, AZ
Shift: 1st Shift

Position Summary

The Non-Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician plays a vital role in providing high-quality veterinary medications, ensuring the health and safety of animals. Working in a state-of-the-art compounding facility under the supervision of the managing pharmacist, you will prepare non-sterile medications in compliance with pharmacy law, pharmacy practice standards, and USP compounding guidelines.
This role involves compounding various non-sterile dosage forms, including capsules, powders, tablets, oral liquids, transdermal gels, otics, topical medications, and medicated treats, covering both hazardous and non-hazardous materials.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Learn and apply standard operating procedures (SOPs) to perform compounding tasks and dosage form preparation under pharmacist supervision.
  • Adhere to all state and federal regulations, including USP standards, to safely handle and dispose of materials, including hazardous waste.
  • Follow personal hygiene and garbing requirements, such as proper hand hygiene and wearing PPE.
  • Prepare non-sterile compounded preparations in alignment with master formula records and compounding records.
  • Ensure correct potency, quality, and cross-contamination prevention in all preparations using good compounding practices.
  • Clean and sanitize compounding areas, equipment, and tools per SOPs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of compounded medications, ingredients, lot numbers, and expiration dates.
  • Monitor inventory levels of compounding supplies, and reorder materials as needed.
  • Participate in training programs and stay updated on compounding techniques, regulations, and industry advancements.
  • Collaborate with pharmacists and team members to ensure efficient workflow and timely order completion.
  • Cross-train in other departments, as needed.
  • Maintain reliability and punctuality.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Entry-level position; 6 months of pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Experience in non-sterile compounding preferred but not required.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

  • Must hold a current pharmacy technician license or registration from the State Board of Pharmacy where the facility is located. Technician trainee licenses may be acceptable per state regulations.
  • Must obtain pharmacy technician national certification (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcareer Association (NHA) within six months of hire.
