Position: Police Officer Recruit
The Brea Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer Recruit. Candidates must complete the department application prior to taking the FrontLine National exam through the National Testing Network (NTN).
Salary and Benefits
Retirement Plan:
CalPERS Retirement:
2.0% @ 50 for employees not classified as "New Employees" under CalPERS; employees contribute 12% of their retirement package.
2.7% @ 57 for "New Employees" under CalPERS; employees contribute 50% of the "Normal Cost" (currently 11.75%, subject to change).

Special Pays:
Bilingual Pay: $200 per month for the first eligible language, $25 for each additional eligible language.
Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Pay: $200 per month.
P.O.S.T. Pay:
Intermediate: 7.5% of base pay.
Advanced: 12.5% of base pay.
Special Assignments: 5% of base pay for roles such as Corporal, Detective, K-9 Handler, Traffic Officer, School Resource Officer, Field Training Officer, and others.
Uniform Allowance: $850 per fiscal year.

Job Requirements
Age: Minimum 21 years at the time of appointment.
Citizenship: U.S. citizen or eligible permanent resident who has applied for citizenship.
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Driver's License: Must possess a valid driver's license.
Vision: Uncorrected 20/100, correctable to 20/30.
Academy Completion: Required after hiring.
Hiring Process
Application Submission
Written Examination:
P.O.S.T. PELLET-B Test: Minimum T-score of 45 within one year.
National Testing Network (NTN) Exam: Scores sent directly to Brea Police Department.
Physical Fitness Qualifier (PFQ):
1.5-mile run.
Timed push-ups, sprints, and dummy drag.
Overall score of 70 required to advance.
Oral Interview:
Conducted by Brea Police personnel.
Questions assess communication skills, knowledge of the department, and interest in the role.
Background Investigation:
Includes polygraph test and verification of personal, employment, and character references.
Psychological Evaluation:
Administered in compliance with P.O.S.T. standards.
Medical Screening:
Includes physical exam in compliance with P.O.S.T. standards.
Police Chief Interview:
Final step before a hiring decision.
Disqualifiers
Criminal History:
Felony convictions.
Misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude.
Driving Record:
Review of traffic violations and convictions on a case-by-case basis.
Drug Use:
History reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Employment History:
Inconsistent work history or dismissals reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Financial History:
Reviewed for patterns of instability, including multiple bankruptcies or unresolved debts.
Other Disqualifiers:
Determined on a case-by-case basis, considering overall background and fitness for the role.
