Requirements

The McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University is a diverse community of problem-solvers, committed to moving bold ideas to action. We are global citizens, conducting policy-relevant research, and building bridges between our work and the communities we serve.

The Policy Analyst for The Center on Education and the Workforce , McCourt School of Public Policy, Georgetown University, will serve as a core support analyst across 2-3 project teams simultaneously. This position aims to accommodate growth for a driven individual and will interact with the center's director and other senior staff to learn how we develop and implement our annual work plan and manage projects. The Policy Analyst is a self-starter, capable of working independently, and able to lead analytic work on assigned projects. The responsibilities of this position include conducting robust economic analyses on salient education and labor market issues. This includes, but is not limited to, conducting landscape analyses of current policy and literature as well as current events to inform the development of research projects from conceptualization to press rollout. The role also includes working with detailed, individual-level data collected from surveys, censuses, or administrative records (such as the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), National Postsecondary Student Aid Study (NPSAS), the American Community Survey), performing quantitative data analyses on this data, and developing summary data tables and figures.

Additionally, the position is expected to clearly translate the work of data scientists and other analysts into effective report writing tailored for a general audience and work in a collaborative environment that includes working with professional writers, editors, and our communications team. The Policy Analyst will be accountable for working with the Director of Research, Director of Policy and Strategy, and project team-leads to organize all aspects of supporting research for their projects.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Analytical design and implementation.
  • Qualitative data analysis, literature reviews, and field scans.
  • Quantitative data analysis and visualization.
  • Translating research findings into clear written reports and materials.
  • Development of project plans and project management.
  • Working with teams to adhere to established timelines.
  • Collaborating with senior staff to support other projects.

Work Interactions

The position will report directly to the Director of Research, and is expected to operate in a highly collaborative and integrated environment where cross-functional activities (research, writing/editing, and communications) are critical. The center's work environment has high levels of engagement between analysts, writers, and communication/design staff. The Policy Analyst will provide support across multiple project teams and will be responsible for coordinating their project activities both within teams and across functional areas to ensure the timely progression of projects and deliverables from research to final output.

The Policy Analyst will function as an economist, data analyst, and policy specialist focused on education and workforce policy. The position requires close collaboration with other senior staff and the Director of Research to develop and implement our project work plans. Given the Center's use of an integrated work model, the Policy Analyst will also collaborate with other core research, writing/editorial, and communications staff on their projects.
