Responsibilities

  • Manages the work schedule, work order assignment prioritization, and performance of Locksmiths. Directs Locksmith Technicians regarding daily duties and priorities of work. Monitors quality of work completed.
  • Responsible for coordinating the installation lock hardware and physical security features for all Institute property in accordance with applicable codes. 
  • Maintains the master key hierarchy, and uses discretion to determine when and to whom a master key can be issued. Performs regular audits of tenant and property management key inventory. Ensures all master keys are accounted for.
  • Consults with architects and to make security-related recommendations for new construction and renovations. Meets with facilities project managers and end users to design and implement master keying systems that provides a secure model for space occupants.
  • Oversees the development, operation, and maintenance of the DFCI key database, the AWARE automated work order system and INSITE, the automated floor plan database. 
  • Responsible for design of all lock and key systems. Maintains adequate stock of appropriate hardware and supplies for the shop.
  • Oversees the hiring, orientation, evaluation, coaching and mentoring of staff in accordance with Human Resource policies and the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive preventive maintenance program to insure compliance with Institute security policies as well as external regulations. Oversees the preventive maintenance on all lock & key systems and any key cutting equipment.  Regularly reviews and revises preventative maintenance procedures to improve equipment performance and Joint Commission compliance. 
  • Works closely with Director of Security and Emergency Management regarding sensitive and secure areas.
  • May be required to be “on call” in the event of occasional problems.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate with some college scholastic preparation preferred.
  • 5 years of experience in Facilities Management with experience as a supervisor is preferred. 
  • Knowledge of blueprint reading, drafting, estimating, building construction standards, and national, state and local codes and regulations.
  • Computer knowledge for the purposes of data entry into key assignment and space management systems required.
