Solar questions, answered
The things NSW homeowners ask us most — about cost, rebates, savings, batteries and getting started.
It depends on system size and components, but as a rough guide a quality 6.6 kW home system typically lands in the mid-single-thousands after the federal STC rebate is deducted, while larger 10 kW+ systems cost more. We design to your roof and usage and quote a fixed price with all rebates already applied — no surprises.
The main one is the federal solar STC rebate, deducted upfront from your invoice. If you add a battery, the federal Cheaper Home Batteries program can take roughly 30% off it. See our rebates page & calculator for an instant estimate.
Most homes offset a large share of their daytime usage and export the surplus for a feed-in tariff. The exact figure depends on your usage pattern, system size and tariff. Our 60-second savings calculator gives a personalised estimate.
It comes down to your electricity usage, roof space and orientation, and whether you'll add a battery or EV later. As a rule of thumb, bigger bills and more daytime usage justify a bigger system. We size it precisely during your free design.
Not necessarily. A battery stores your daytime solar to use at night, avoids peak grid rates and keeps essentials running in a blackout — but it adds upfront cost. With the new battery rebate the maths is much better than it was; we'll model both with and without so you can choose.
Most residential installs are completed in a single day by our certified team. Larger commercial systems take longer. We handle the grid-connection paperwork and meter configuration for you.
For most NSW homes, a well-sized system pays for itself in roughly 3–6 years, then generates effectively free power for the rest of its 25-year-plus life. Rebates shorten the payback further.
Tier-one panels typically carry 25-year performance warranties, inverters 5–12 years (often extendable), and batteries around 10 years. On top of the manufacturer warranties, Crown Solar backs the workmanship and provides local after-sales support.
Panels still generate on cloudy days, just at reduced output. In a grid blackout a standard solar system shuts off for safety — but pair it with a battery (with backup capability) and your essential circuits keep running.
